About

Teodor Corban was one of the most respected and charismatic Romanian actors of his generation, a defining presence both on the stage of Iași and in international cinema through the Romanian New Wave. Throughout his life, he remained deeply connected to his hometown, becoming a symbol of the Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre in Iași, where he appeared in dozens of acclaimed productions directed by renowned theatre makers such as Silviu Purcărete, Cristian Hadji-Culea, Ovidiu Lazăr, and Alexandru Dabija.

Although already a towering figure of the Romanian stage, international recognition came through his remarkable performances in films including Aferim! (dir. Radu Jude), One Floor Below (dir. Radu Muntean), 6.9 on the Richter Scale (dir. Nae Caranfil), 12:08 East of Bucharest (dir. Corneliu Porumboiu), and Legacy (dir. Dorian Boguță).

His posthumous volume, Life Like a Carom, offers readers an intimate journey into his thoughts, a testimony to his passion for art and to the wit, sensitivity, and depth with which he viewed the world. The book brings together stories and poems written by Teodor Corban throughout the 1990s and 2000s.

More than a literary publication, the volume celebrates Teodor Corban’s enduring spirit, inviting readers to encounter his unmistakable voice through the written word. It is an essential act of preserving the legacy of an artist who profoundly shaped contemporary Romanian theatre and cinema, offering a deeper understanding of a life lived with authenticity, curiosity, and artistic conviction.

The book launch will be preceded by a staged reading of selected texts from the volume, performed by actors George Cocoș and Ioana Natalia Corban.
